Every competitive athletic season, the Colorado Academy Department of Athletics recognizes an individual who has recently completed or is nearing the end of their competitive season and who reflects and possesses the qualities that we look for in our CA team captains: work ethic, integrity, leadership, commitment, dedication, and being a leader both on and off the field. This honor is not bestowed lightly and is certainly something to be celebrated, respected, and appreciated.
Varsity Girls Lacrosse captain Anna Colpack has been chosen for the spring 2023 season’s Captain’s Award. Anna was selected from a group of five Seniors that included Boys Lacrosse captain Elliot Rutherford, Girls Tennis captain Anna Jordaan, Baseball captain J.T. Timmers, and Girls Soccer captain Mattie Mielke. This group of students is a testament to all of the fantastic Senior leaders who are part of the Colorado Academy Class of 2023.
Anna started her CA career in Lower School. She quickly established herself as a fast, determined, competitive, focused, and energetic student-athlete and a wonderful addition to the CA community. Anna left CA in Middle School when her family relocated to Texas, but we were lucky enough to welcome her back when they returned to Colorado a few years later.
Anna starred on Veronica Scott’s State Championship-winning Field Hockey Team this past fall as a speedy forward who was difficult for opposing teams to cover. In Lacrosse, Anna has been a four-year Varsity player, and was recruited and earned admission to Stanford University, where she will matriculate this fall. Anna’s dedication to her game and Colorado Academy was evident right from the start of her Varsity career. During her Junior Lacrosse season, another State Championship run saw her get significant playing time and score 34 goals and gather 12 assists. In that year’s State Championship game, she scored three times and dished out an assist as well. This year, as a Senior, Anna has 18 goals and four assists and is shooting a very strong 51.4% through 10 games.
The Head Coach of Colorado Academy Girls Lacrosse, Sonorah Hunter, says, “Anna is someone who leads by example and every day shows her commitment, work ethic, and dedication to her team on and off the field. She is someone who is constantly challenging others in practice to be their best, while showing support and kindness to younger players. Anna is extremely deserving of the spring Captain’s Award!” Anna garnered Second Team All-State laurels in Lacrosse last year as a Junior and Honorable Mention All-State last fall in Field Hockey.
With Colpack earning the Captain’s Award this spring, this is the second time a member of the Girls Lacrosse program has earned this distinction. Maya Rutherford won the recognition during the 2021 season. Congratulations, Anna!
