Spring 2022 Captain’s Award

Every competitive athletic season, the Colorado Academy Department of Athletics recognizes an individual who recently completed or is close to finishing their competitive season and who reflects and possesses the qualities that we look for in our CA team captains—work ethic, integrity, leadership, commitment, dedication, and being a leader both on and off the field. This year, because of the return to play for all of our traditional spring sports during the regularly scheduled CHSAA season, the leadership exhibited by our captains has been critical.

Senior Girls Soccer player Stella Fenton is the recipient of the Spring 2022 Captain’s Award. Fenton, who came to CA in Ninth Grade, has, throughout her years at CA, led with grace, humility, and a positive energy. As one of the Co-Captains for a very young squad, Fenton has been tasked with inspiring the winning culture of the program. Fenton’s steadfast approach and rock-solid skills on the Mustangs back line have proven extremely effective, leading the girls to a 9-3 record at the time of this publication. “Stella has embraced the weight of wearing the #11 jersey,” says Soccer Coach Sean Stedeford. “She has ensured her legacy with the program will not be forgotten.”

Three additional Senior Captains were nominated for this season’s Captain’s Award and warrant recognition for their fine leadership and character.

  • Senior Charlie Beasley is one of the captains for the Boys Lacrosse Team that will finish the season with 10 or more wins as it heads into State Championship competition.
  • Maya Kendall is one of the captains for the Girls Lacrosse Team that is continuing its strong tradition of excellence.
  • Captain Ben Greenberg is a starting pitcher and center fielder for JT Putt’s Baseball squad that is putting together an impressive regular season record.

All of these individuals have modeled great sportsmanship, work ethic, and competitiveness, which will benefit them as they head into the playoffs and go off to college in the fall.

If you have a chance, come catch a game this spring. There’s plenty of playoff action to cheer on. Check the CA website for game details, including time and location. Go Mustangs!
