Colorado Academy Parent Association Connections January 2019

Dear CA Community,

My heart is full. We have spent the last month building and supporting our CA community!  I share just a few of the heartwarming things that happened this month. We hosted an amazingly “enchanted” all-school book fair, hosted by Averee & Wally Heidenreich, Dusty Fitzgerald, and Mary Leyva and supported by a fantastic Scholastic Books team. There was a corresponding PA Book Club meeting, food, entertainment, and a petting zoo. What a wonderful community-building event supporting READING!

Then, I ran into a H.O.P.E. Co-Chair a week before the event and asked, “What do you need?” and the humble response was, “We really want to provide a backpack for every child.…” I answered, “I’ll put the word out to my leadership team.” What happened next stole my heart…. Responses from my one simple email caused hundreds of backpacks to pour in. Every child attending H.O.P.E. walked away with a stuffed backpack and so much more!! Thank you to our generous, kind, and compassionate CA community.

Finally, we hosted another successful Wreath & Garland sale (a decades-long tradition), thanks to chairs Lyndsey Farncombe and Kristin Matijevich, as well as a festive Holiday Mart on November 30, under the leadership of Mia Sorensen, which brought an amazing group of community entrepreneurs on campus to sell their wares. A good time was had by all!

On behalf of the Parent Association, we hope you had a joyous holiday season and we wish you a prosperous new year!

Gear up for the Annual CA Used Book Sale!

Collection Week is just around the corner! This year our goal is to jam pack over 20,000 donated items into just 4 days of collection. The annual divisional donation competition will kick off on the first day of collection, Tuesday, January 22, with Two for Tuesday. Receive double points for your classroom or advisory for any items donated that day.

Get a head start and begin gathering all your recycled books, audio books, DVDs, and video games.  We ask that you write the number of items donated on your box or bag of donations and the name of your student’s teacher or advisory. Donated items may be dropped off in the book-drop locations on the north side of the Lower School playground and near the Upper School turning circle. (Please, NO magazines, textbooks, CDs or non-video games).

Shop the following week for incredible great finds, all priced at $3 and under. Collection Week is Tuesday, January 22-Friday, January 25. Sale Week is Monday, January 28-Saturday, February 2.  Volunteers are needed and greatly appreciated!  Sign up here.

Mark your calendars for the Taste of CA: A Celebration of Cultures on Thursday, January 31 from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the CA Campus Center

This free, family event is one of the most entertaining and fun of the year! Students, parents, faculty and staff share food, celebrate many of our various cultures and customs, and enjoy entertainment from around the world. Feel free to bring your family’s favorite dish (home made or restaurant made), decorate a table, or maybe wear a traditional costume, and join the celebration. Everyone is welcome! Please RSVP. For more information, contact Christina Joymon or Meghan Geisler. We hope to see you there!
