Every competitive athletic season, the Colorado Academy Department of Athletics recognizes an individual who recently completed their competitive season and who reflects and possesses the qualities that we look for in our CA team captains—work ethic, integrity, leadership, commitment, dedication, and being a leader both on and off the field.
CHSAA Season C included Boys Soccer, Field Hockey, and Volleyball, as well as non-CHSAA sports, Ultimate Frisbee and Rock Climbing.
Senior Field Hockey player Julia Hall is the recipient of the Season C Captain’s Award from the CA Department of Athletics. This is the second season that Julia has been elected captain of the Varsity Field Hockey Team by her teammates. Last year as a Junior, Julia helped lead the way, as the Mustangs won the Colorado State championship in the fall of 2019. This year, Hall helped the program navigate the COVID-19 postponement of its traditional fall competitive season to the spring.
Three other Senior co-captains received nominations for the Season C Captain’s Award and also warrant recognition for their fine leadership and character. James Doolittle was a captain for the Ultimate Frisbee Team, Karlee Osman was a captain for the Volleyball Team, and Peter Carpenter was a captain for the State Champion Boys Soccer Team. All of these individuals modeled great sportsmanship, work ethic, and competitiveness.
Hall was a dependable and aggressive presence for the Mustangs and consistently controlled the middle of the field for the Field Hockey Team from her midfield position. She was a dominant fixture on defensive corners and a leader on offensive corners. “Julia is a leader by example through her grit, tenacity, work ethic, dedication, leadership, and integrity that we have come to expect of a CA captain,” says Coach Veronica Scott.
During the 2021 season, which began at the end of February, the Mustangs led the state field hockey poll and went undefeated (7-0-2) during the regular season. In the playoffs, the Mustangs showed tremendous grit and resolve. For their efforts, Hall and fellow Seniors Chloe Brants, Katharine Merrifield, and Maya Rutherford, and Freshman Zoe Martin were named First Team All-League. Seniors Rebecca Kerr and Ellie Wadsworth, and Sophomore Sophie Brants gained Honorable Mention All-League accolades.
