Every competitive athletic season, the Colorado Academy Athletic Department recognizes an individual who recently completed their competitive season and who reflects and possesses the qualities that we look for in our CA team captains—work ethic, integrity, leadership, commitment, dedication, and being a leader both on and off the field.
This year, due to COVID-19 safety restrictions, CHSAA designated “Season B,” which placed the traditional “winter” sports season of Ice Hockey, Basketball, and Swimming and Diving later than normal. Those teams wrapped up their competitions in mid-March.
Senior Ice Hockey player Steven Blattner has received the Season B Captain’s Award. Steven has been a member of the Ice Hockey squad since the program restarted three years ago, when the team competed in a JV-only schedule. Through Steven’s and others’ leadership this season, the third as a Varsity team, the squad compiled a remarkable 6-2 record and had massive victories over Kent Denver, Rampart, Air Academy, and Liberty.
Steven, an unassuming leader, was consistent in his efforts on and off the ice. He led with maturity, resolve, and a demeanor that the entire community can be proud of. “It has been a real pleasure getting to know and work with Steven over these past four years with the CA Hockey Team,” says Coach Chris Delaney. “Watching him come into our first year of Hockey as a Freshman and seeing him develop year after year as a solid player has been great!”
Steven was a steady presence as a defender for the Mustangs and provided poise on the blue line and while grinding in the corners. Congratulations, Steven! We thank you for your strength in character and your efforts for the CA Ice Hockey program and your teammates. Your hard work and determination have set an example for those Ice Hockey players who will wear the red, white, and black for years to come.
