‘Oh the places you’ll go!’

Ready to travel to places you never imagined to benefit a program that takes some of Denver’s most deserving students to new heights?

Mark your calendar: on November 7, 2018, at 6:30 p.m., Colorado Academy will celebrate the 11th annual Wine and Dine benefiting Horizons at CA. This year’s theme is “Oh the Places You’ll Go” to honor the incredible life journeys our Horizons students take to success.

Horizons at CA

Now in its 21st year at CA, Horizons serves more than 140 Denver students annually through six weeks of dynamic summer enrichment and six “Super Saturdays” throughout the school year. Participants, all Denver students living at or below the poverty line, start Horizons in Pre-K or Kindergarten. They and their families commit to return to Horizons each summer through high school so that they can keep “going places,” moving forward academically, artistically, athletically, and emotionally.

Horizons is part of a national program serving more than 6,000 students in 60 affiliates throughout the country. As the only Colorado affiliate, Horizons at CA was the first established west of the Mississippi. Since 1998, it’s provided unique and life-changing opportunities for students as young as 5, as well as those ready to enter college.

Swimming at Horizons at CA

One Horizons graduate who’s now an employee at Knapp Elementary School says, “To be in Horizons is like winning the lottery.” For her, the program meant support every summer, including two hot nutritious meals daily, field trips taking her everywhere from local parks to a ranch in Wyoming, and swimming every day. The dedicated teachers and staff always encouraged her to achieve her potential and overcome obstacles as significant as peer pressure, poverty, and prejudice.

Horizons is unique in many ways and shares a goal with CA: to support students as they achieve their best in a vibrant community. To achieve that goal on behalf of Horizons participants, the program depends on donors, grant opportunities, and very select fundraising opportunities.
