It’s the moment early in the school year that every Kindergartner and Senior waits for—the annual buddy match. The coldest day of the new school year didn’t dampen spirits as Colorado Academy Kindergartners brought books and waited patiently to learn who their Senior Buddies would be. It was hard to tell which grade level was more excited.
On a chilly final day of September, Lower School Principal Angie Crabtree and Grade 12 Dean Gabe Bernstein called out each name, and groups of two, three, and four met for the first time on Stamper Commons.
Any initial timidness of CA’s younger students faded quickly as the members of the Class of 2022 introduced themselves, gave high fives and smiles, and helped select the perfect place to read books together and get acquainted.
One hundred Seniors matched with 48 Kindergartners on what will be the first of several planned outings throughout the year. This CA tradition is one of the most beloved by both classes of students. Many of CA’s super lifers fondly remember moments with their Senior Buddy 13 years earlier, and do all they can to pass on those special memories to their new buddies.
All Buddy groups posed together for a photo to mark their initial introduction. A sample is below. Click to view and download photos of ALL the Senior-Kindergarten Buddy groups, and fun candids from the meet-up. NOTE: Buddies were allowed to briefly take off masks as they posed for photos.
