With 10 of Denver’s best food and beverage vendors—all with a CA connection—supplying delicious, Italian-themed food and with 116 auction items donated by families, friends, and Horizons supporters, the 2018 Wine & Dine raised well over $130,000—a new record for Horizons fundraising!
Co-chairs Kathy Fenley and Jeanine Hughes Murphy and their phenomenal committee brought true “amore” to the tenth Wine & Dine benefiting Horizons at CA, a non-profit public-private partnership between Colorado Academy and Denver Public Schools. For 20 years, Horizons has benefited hundreds of children living at or below the poverty level with multiple support systems, educational opportunities, activities, nutritious meals, health and wellness programming, and more.
Wine & Dine is a major fundraiser allowing the Horizons program to achieve its goals, including direct support to nearly 150 students this summer. All proceeds benefit the #6WeeksOfHappiness known as Horizons Summer Enrichment, including two daily meals, all transportation, academic enrichment, health and wellness including daily swimming, a wide range of trips and adventures linking learning to the outdoors, the arts, and more, as well as other dynamic activities.
Thanks to Kathy, Jeanine, and their incredible committee members including Decor co-chairs Allison Dodge and Rachel Aguirre; Acquisitions Chair Amy McPheeters; and the indefatigable Jen Wolkon, who coordinated and communicated with the restaurants and vendors, for an unforgettable evening. Special thanks to the event sponsors for helping offset expenses so that as many dollars as possible go directly to impacting students’ lives, including
Operation Walk (Dr. Doug and Mrs. Debbie Dennis)
Chris and Maribeth Younger
Ed and Roxanne Anderson
Atlantic Financial Management
Red Rocks Financial (Walter and Averee Heidenreich)
Gentle Smiles Dentistry (Dr. Tim Wachuta)
Finally, a very special thank you to Auctioneer Tom Kimball, CA alumnus and current CA parent, whose on-stage conversation with Horizons at CA student and guest speaker Ulisses Rico-Moncada illustrated the incredible ways Horizons changes lives. Ulisses, who started CA this year as a freshman, anticipates studying acting and ultimately becoming an immigration attorney. As the nearly 200 guests who watched Ulisses shine on February 22 can attest, whether on stage or in a courtroom, this Horizons student will shine with success and dedication no matter where his future takes him.
