November 14 was Signing Day 2024 at Colorado Academy, as six student-athletes officially committed to competing at the Division I level next year in college.
In the festive ceremony in CA’s Athletic Center, attended by families, fans, coaches, teachers, and staff members, Head of School Dr. Mike Davis congratulated the Mustangs, noting, “What you have achieved at CA is amazing—it is so difficult to be recruited for a Division I program.”
This year’s signers included the following Seniors:
- Melissa Acker – Delaware State University, Equestrian
- Celina Frenz – University of New Mexico, Soccer
- Lucy Garnsey – University of Denver, Soccer
- Addy Smith – Cornell University, Lacrosse
- Noah Stull – High Point University, Lacrosse
- Addy Westerberg – Arizona State University, Lacrosse
Before Assistant Athletic Director Hunter Worthley shared a few words about each student-athlete, she said, “These athletes have shown remarkable dedication, resilience, and talent to reach this moment. As they prepare to take the next step in their journeys, it’s essential to acknowledge the countless hours they’ve put into training, the sacrifices they’ve made, and the support they’ve received from their coaches, families, and friends. Today is a celebration of not only their athletic achievements, but also their character, teamwork, and leadership.”
Melissa Acker, Worthley pointed out, “has over 50 equestrian career wins and has qualified for over 20 national and Colorado Medal Final and Championship classes. She is currently ranked third by the United States Hunter/Jumper Association for riders between the ages of 15 and 17 in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona who compete in equitation.”
Saluting Celina Frenz, Worthley noted, “This CA ‘Lifer’ is a four-year Varsity letter player with Girls Soccer, and has earned CHSAA First Team All-State and Metro League recognitions for three years. She is ‘a player you never want to stop playing with,’ according to her teammates.”
Another four-year Varsity letter player with Girls Soccer, Lucy Garnsey, said Worthley, “earned CHSAA First Team All-State and Metro League recognitions for two years. As her team’s starting goalie, this Mustang gives players the confidence to take risks on the field because they know she will be there for them when they need her the most.”
Girls Lacrosse standout Addy Smith, Worthley noted, “was a two-year Field Hockey participant and a one-year Basketball participant while she earned her Varsity letter in Lacrosse all four years of high school. Addy is known for the can-do attitude and energy she brings to the classroom as well as the sports field.”
Worthley went on to congratulate Noah Stull, who, she pointed out, is “a four-year Varsity letter player for both Ice Hockey and Boys Lacrosse. Earning Boys Lacrosse Second Team All-Conference recognition in 2024, Noah has also worked to share his love for lacrosse with others, through Horizons Colorado as well as the World Lacrosse Foundation.”
C-Club member Addy Westerberg is not only a four-year Varsity letter player with Girls Lacrosse, but also a four-year Field Hockey participant and the manager for last year’s Ice Hockey team, said Worthley. “Addy knew the moment she played her first lacrosse game at five years old that this would be her ‘forever sport.’”
