‘A force for positivity’
Says Garrett Dutton (better known as G. Love), “I’ve always tried to make music that’s a force for positivity. It was important to me that this album be something that could empower the folks who are out there fighting the good fight every day. I wanted to make a rallying cry for empathy and unity. I’ve written these songs that give strength and encouragement to the people who are out there doing the work to make this planet a better place. Those are the people I want to lift up with my music. I’m more inspired right now than I’ve ever been before. I feel more thoughtful, seasoned, marinated, and confident. I’m making the records I’ve always wanted to make.” Recorded in Nashville with a slew of special guests, including Robert Randolph, Marcus King, and Roosevelt Collier, The Juice was co-produced and co-written with Grammy-winning icon Keb’ Mo’.
Love is now on the second leg of a coast-to-coast tour with his latest album, and he just added another 23 dates to the schedule. In between wrapping up the tour and a summer appearance at Red Rocks, G. Love and crew will be at Colorado Academy for another one of the school’s intimate and hugely fun concerts set in the school’s Field House. All net proceeds help support the dollars that the school provides each year in student financial aid. In 2020-2021, that will be nearly $4 million.
Love’s act is an alternative hip-hop band with a reputation for its live shows featuring a genuine and gritty blues sound. Reviews from the tour so far are terrific. Said one concert-goer, “Another great show. They are music-focused, and you can see the love for the craft in the eyes of all three of them.” And Langen Goldstien, reviewing the Twin Cities performance stated, “Their laid-back sound mixes everything from blues to hip-hop to indie rock in the most perfect way.”
The CA concert will also feature Denver’s own Isaac Slade, the lead vocalist, main songwriter, pianist, and co-founder of The Fray, who says, “Playing live is the part I enjoy the most…We get in front of real fans…and we connect, people to people.”
