Delgado will bring a dynamic and student-focused approach to CA’s more than 400 Upper School students, where he will teach as well as hold the top administrative office. He was selected from a diverse group of highly-qualified independent school professionals who met with faculty and staff and a select group of students and parents.
“Max was among an incredible group of candidates. His positive energy, interest in CA, and knowledge and shared experiences really stood out,” says Dr. Davis.
Delgado is the current Upper School Principal at Saint Paul Academy and Summit School in Saint Paul, Minn. His administrative experience includes Dean of Students at Saint Paul Academy, and he was Executive Director of Learning Works at Blake, an innovative program for Middle School students at the Blake School in Minneapolis. He also served as Blake’s Upper School Director of Cornerstone, an affinity group of students and families of color. Before taking on those roles, Delgado was a Grade Dean at Blake. He started his career in independent schools as Associate Dean of Students at The College Preparatory School in Oakland, Calif. Before moving to education, Delgado was a continuing care coordinator and drug and alcohol rehabilitation counselor in Oakland. He holds an MFA degree from the California College of the Arts and a BA from Fordham University.
“It’s clear that everyone I spoke to—from administrators to students, and faculty to parents—is super invested in the school. It’s rare to see a school doing so well in so many programs,” says Delgado. “Every conversation was a reflection of just how each individual sincerely embraces the school’s values. These are the same values that mean a lot to me.”
Delgado replaces Dr. Jon Vogels, who has served as CA’s Upper School Principal for 18 years. Vogels is remaining at CA to lead the speech and debate team and continue teaching.
“Jon has been a distinguished leader at CA, and I’m grateful for his continued service,” says Dr. Davis. “We are fortunate to have such a committed professional remaining on our faculty to share his love of learning with colleagues and students.”
Delgado will wrap up this school year in St. Paul and join CA during the summer. His tenure at CA officially begins in August.
