Guests at Colorado Academy’s Annual Holiday Dinner received a special preview of Phase II of CA’s Athletic Center while it is still under construction. The dinner was hosted by Head of School Dr. Mike Davis and Thomassen Davis and Board of Trustees Chair David Jones ‘95 and Charlene Jones. Attendees included honorary and current trustees, members of the Second Century Club, the Leadership Roundtable, and the Head of School’s Club.
Advancement Officer Gravely Wilson treated small groups of guests to a tour of Phase II of the 66,000-square-foot Athletic Center pointing out some of the highlights—including the new wood floors and wood bleachers in the Main Gym, the 40-foot-high ceiling in the climbing center (which will have 18 climbing lanes and more than 4,000 holds!), and the new concession stand which will be wrapped in wood from the old bleachers.
Guests were also treated to a performance by the Chamber Choir, led by Vocal Music Director Cindy Jordan, with an unforgettable performance of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”
The evening ended with remarks by Jones and Dr. Davis, who reminded guests that CA’s soon-to-be-opened Athletic Center is the third project completed as part of the See it Through campaign. After the Athletic Center opens on February 6, 2019, CA will continue to “See it Through” with a fourth and final structure, a new Performing Arts Center. When that project is finished, CA will have, over the past 20 years, rebuilt, refurbished, or renovated nearly every major structure on the campus.
“Schools are hopeful places,” Davis told an audience of 180 guests. “They are places where all actions are taken because of a belief in tomorrow and belief in our mission: to create lifelong learners, productive participants in the world, people who will contribute, learn, and understand their own power to make a difference.”
