The 5UP (Five Minutes Up) program at Colorado Academy is a series of talks with the goal of featuring voices of our community in a shortened TED talk set up. Each series of talks includes a student, a representative from the faculty or staff, and a speaker from our larger community.
In this episode of 5UP, Catherine Balsam-Schwaber, first-grade parent, and General Manager of the creative online community, Craftsy, talks about the Unicorn phenomena in culture for good and bad—from the rise of the billion dollar start up to the perception of working mothers. She says that we are in an era when uniqueness is valued on multiple levels. Standing out as different as something to be celebrated.
