More than 150 of Colorado Academy’s most generous supporters, along with current and former trustees, gathered for the CA Annual Holiday Dinner in the Campus Center on December 4, 2019. The festive atmosphere—reinforced by three fathers in matching holiday suits—was enhanced by Board Chair David Jones’s announcement that Board Members had just voted unanimously to approve construction of the Leach Center for the Performing Arts to begin in Spring 2020.
Jones thanked guests for their support of the See it Through campaign, which has raised $31 million since 2014, enabling renovation of the iconic Welborn House, redesign and rebuilding of the Ponzio Arts Center, and the design and construction of the Athletic Center. “It’s an exciting time at CA,” Jones told the gathered guests. “The school has never been in better shape and continues to operate from a position of strength.”
Jones reminded those in attendance that the work is not finished, since fundraising is continuing for the new Performing Arts Center. As a good reminder of the talented groups that will perform in the new building, Chanteurs performed several holiday numbers, directed by Kevin Padworski.
Dr. Mike Davis took the opportunity to tell the success stories of many alumni for whom a CA education changed the trajectory of their lives—from Paul Raether ’64 to America Perez ’12, from Roger Freeman ’86 and his wife Mi-Sun Cho ’88 to Nehemias Luna ’10, who started in the Horizons at CA program and is now earning his MBA at Harvard.
“We cannot begin to thank you enough for all of your generosity as donors, and as current and former trustees,” Davis said. “Every day, your support is changing lives.”
