Surrounded by family, friends, teachers, and coaches, two Colorado Academy Seniors celebrated their official NCAA Division I National Letter of Intent signing on November 19.
Ella Greene will play lacrosse for the University of California, Berkeley Golden Bears. Marie Jordaan will play golf for the Santa Clara Broncos.
“This is always a big deal and a rare opportunity,” said Head of School Dr. Mike Davis. “It says a lot about your families who have supported you to make this dream come true.”
Director of Athletics Bill Hall added his thanks to teachers, coaches, and counselors. “The success of these athletes showcases the many ways we take care of each other at CA,” he said. “I can’t wait to see the great things you do at Santa Clara and University of California.”
Ella Greene
Greene, who transferred to CA for her Sophomore year, has played both lacrosse and volleyball at CA. She was part of CA’s 2018 and 2019 State Championship Girls Lacrosse teams and scored 3 goals in the 2018 championship game. In her Junior year, she scored 43 goals with 15 assists. At the University of California, she will play attack/midfield, joining CA alumna Ella Annest on the lacrosse team.
Green volunteers for the Special Olympics, received a National Scholastic Award for art and drawing, and recently received the “Character Beyond Athletics Award” from Touching Hearts through Athletics.
Marie Jordaan
Jordaan is a key member of the CA Girls Golf Team, which has won the 3A State Championship for the past four years. She qualified for the National Junior PGA this past year, an “amazing accomplishment” according to Hall.
Jordaan is known for her laser focus in the classroom and on the golf course. Coach Beth Folsom describes her as “a great teammate and leader,” and her advisor Tom Thorpe says she is a “diligent student and supportive friend.” Jordaan participates in Students HOPE.
Typically, about 10 percent of CA Seniors go on to play DI, II, or III collegiate sports. CA will celebrate additional college-bound athletes in the Spring.
