“Shoot for the moon!”
That was the heart of Dr. Mike Davis’s greeting to Colorado Academy’s entire student body during the 2019-2020 opening day All-School Assembly. (Click on the link to listen to a recording of Dr. Davis.)
But Dr. Davis wasn’t just using this inspirational phrase lightly. He had his own “shoot for the moon” experience to share with students, describing how, as a baby, he was present at the Apollo 11 launch to the moon 50 years ago on July 16, 1969. As it happened, his grandfather was a long-time NASA employee, and courtesy of that family connection, Dr. Davis witnessed history—although he was too young to know it at the time.
Students watched video of the countdown to the launch, as they began their own countdown to a new school year. And with the traditional reading (and cheering) of all the names Seniors in the Class of 2020, CA launched a new school year adventure.
