Student Play Selected for Los Angeles Performances

Congratulations to Colorado Academy Senior and playwright Trinity Goderstad whose play titled “Loaded,” has been selected by the Blank Theatre for performance at the Young Playwrights Festival in Los Angeles. Every June, the Blank Theatre produces the 12 best plays by playwrights ages 9 to 19, chosen from a nationwide competition. In the past 24 years, the Blank Theatre has produced 284 plays by these young writers. Nowhere else in the nation can young playwrights receive the prize of seeing their vision come to life on state in a professional production featuring known actors from film, television and theatre. Goderstad’s play will run June 8, 9, and 10 in Los Angeles. Goderstad’s play begins on Christmas when the protagonist, Ellie, finds a man lying face down in her driveway.

Before she shoots him, he tells her he has come to bury a prayer in her crèche. Dee Covington, Curious Theatre Education Director who works with CA students, says, “Trinity may look ultra calm on the outside, but on the inside she is fiercely working to care for what matters. Like her characters, Trinity understands the key to the universe is to show up, discerningly question the moment, and always keep a secret or two buried where people can feel it, but never find it.”

Year after year, Goderstad has been an award-winning writer in numerous genres. Earlier this school year, she won five awards from the 2017 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for the Wet Region, including Honorable Mentions for Personal Essay/Memoir, Writing Portfolio, and Poetry (“Paper Lanterns,” “Writing Hungry,” and “Teaching Woman,” respectively) and Silver Key awards for her Critical Essay, “How to Write Your Woman,” and for her Flash Fiction work titled “Primal Instincts.”

Upper School English teacher Betsey Coleman says, “From freshman through senior year whether writing a play, poem, flash fiction, or essay, Trinity has seen beyond and through what most high school students can.”
