More Than Just a Broken Record

CA Senior Jack Thomas can’t get out of the way of the accolades he is racking up for his just-finished season as CA’s Soccer Goalie.  As senior captain, he started every game of the 38-0-2 combined run over the past two seasons during which the team took the state championship both times.

Thomas set the individual season Goals Against Average Record with a 0.124 (the old record was .190), and ranks him in the top six all-time nationwide.  Thomas set the individual Season Shut-Out Record with 17 shutouts (the old record was 16). He also set the individual Goal Keeper Consecutive Scoreless Minutes with 1,146 minutes (the old record was 1,004). And he set the Shut-Out Record for a High School with 17 (the old was 16). Thomas set the Goals Against Average for a School with a .118 GAA (the old record was .20 GAA), and this puts Colorado Academy in the top 10 all-time nationwide. Lastly, he set the Consecutive Scoreless Minutes for a High School with 1,146 minutes (the old record was 640).

Says Coach Gabe Bernstein, “These awards do not come as a surprise to me after coaching Jack over the course of this season. He is a tireless worker, committed to improving everyday that he trains with his goalkeeper coach Zuriel Lozano. What sets Jack apart from the rest of the pack are his training habits and mental toughness.  He is a leader on and off of the field, demanding that his teammates be better each and everyday. I am so honored to have had the privilege of coaching this young man during his senior season, and I have no doubt that he will find success in his next adventure after Colorado Academy.”

Thomas has been named Second Team All-League, First Team All-State, as well as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Soccer Player of the Week. Additionally, the team was named as NSCAA All-Region, which includes Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming.

One more accolade that might go unnoticed is a message on CA’s Facebook page from soccer player and opponent Fidel Ochoa after CA’s 2013 championship win. “Hey you guys, congratulations!! I’m Number 10 from Sterling and it was amazing playing against you guys! You truly play a beautiful game as a team and family.”
