Staunton State Park

Staunton State Park is one of the states newest state parks and it’s only a 30 minute drive from CA! Staunton offers both beginning and advanced trails, so there is something for all ability levels. We will meet in the main parking lot at Staunton and divide into groups. The cost is a $7 admission fee per vehicle to the park. You will need to provide your own bike and I encourage you to bring an extra tube, a helmet, and plenty of food and water. Make sure that your bike is tuned up and in good working condition. If you would like to rent a bike, I recommend the Golden Bike Shop. For more information about Staunton and to take a look at the park map, click here.

Eldorado Hut Trip

Dec. 27 – Dec. 29

8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Cost is FREE! (You will be responsible to buying, borrowing or renting gear, providing food for a group meal and transporting yourself to and from the trailhead.)

Eldorado Hut, near Leadville

Eldorado Hut is located 1/4 mile from Uncle Buds hut just outside of Leadville. Eldorado hut sleeps 10 faculty on beds, fold out couches and air matresses. The hut is fully equipped with a wood burning stove, propane stove, passive solar lights, flushing toilets and a Russian bath. The hike into the hut is approx. 5.5 miles along shores of Turquoise Lake. From the deck of the hut are expansive views of the Mosquito Range and easy access to mellow backcountry skiing. If rest and relaxation is more your speed, window nooks are a great place to curl up with a book and cup of hot chocolate. Cross country skis, snowshoes, or AT skis are required. If you need to rent skiis, I recommend Bent Gate Mountaineering in Golden, CO. You will need to bring winter clothing (extensive gear list will be provided) and a sleeping bag. You will also be responsible for preparing a meal for the group and buying the food, but there are no other costs for this trip. The hut is generously donated by Arelene and David Cole.
