Colorado Academy Students Capture Ten Regional Writing Awards

Colorado Academy Upper School students are winners of ten awards from the 2018 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in the West Writing Region-At-Large competition. Among the honors are three Silver Key awards and seven Honorable Mentions.

CA’s Jordan Davidson (Grade 9) won two Honorable Mentions in the Poetry category, Genevieve Howard (Grade 10) won an Honorable Mention in Flash Fiction, Kirby Kimball (Grade 10) won four Honorable Mentions in the categories of Poetry and Flash Fiction, Kayleigh Milligan (Grade 10) won a Silver Key for her poetry, and Makayla Sileo (Grade 11) won two Silver Key awards for two works in the Poetry category.  Students Jordan Davidson and Genevieve Howard were also winners of awards in 2017.

Each year, Scholastic and the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers partner with more than 100 visual arts and literary arts organizations across the country to bring the Scholastic Awards to local communities. Teens in grades 7–12 apply in 29 categories of art and writing. Each year, more than 300,000 works of art and writing are submitted to the Scholastic Awards.

Submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

Students receiving Gold Keys, Silver Keys, Honorable Mentions, or American Visions & Voices Nominations are celebrated within their communities through local exhibitions and ceremonies. Gold Key winners take part in a national competition culminating in ceremonies at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
