CA Hosts TEDx Event on Innovation in Education

More than a 100 audience members and a dozen local and national educators are now veterans of the first TEDxDenverTeachers event held last month on the CA Campus. The event was a public-private collaboration among Colorado Academy, Denver Public Schools, and the Association of Colorado Independent Schools and considered the first of its kind in the U.S. The educational idea exchange brought together some of the Den- ver area’s most forward-thinking teachers and administrators from public and private schools. Presentations included everything from Slam Poetry to Cowboy Ethics and Video Games in the Classroom to Design Thinking. It created an informal network of like-minded educators who are at the fore- front of classroom innovation. TEDxDenverTeachers was sponsored by Liberty Global and Liberty Media.

Presenters included Dr. Marc Chun, Grant Lichtman, Co Barry, Paul Kim, James P. Owen, Ann Moore, Jen Holladay, Chris Barnes, Richard Steckel, Ken Arkind, Theo Wilson, Martha Ashley, and Jonathan Best. (Click here to see the video presentations) CA’s Mike Davis as well as DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg and Colorado Commissioner of Education Richard Hammond also spoke. The event was organized by CA’s Middle School Principal Bill Wolf-Tinsman and was emceed by CA’s Angel Vigil.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x means an independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives.
