April to Feature Non-Stop Capital Blitz

Colorado Academy is launching a 30-day blitz in an effort to bolster its current capital campaign and complete the fundraising for the two remaining projects that are part of the “See it Through” project.

The See it Through campaign is CA’s most ambitious capital effort in the school’s 110-year history. It is designed to address critical needs in the school’s outdated facilities, and already two of the four buildings slated for renovation are complete, including the renewal and remodeling of the historic Welborn House (completed in January), and expansion and renovation of the studio arts building (also completed in January).

Now, trustees and school leaders are focused on raising the balance of the funds to  renew and revitalize the school’s theater and gym facilities and to raise additional endowment funds.

The See it Through Campaign

The campaign goal is $30 million, $25 million for construction and $5 million in endowment dollars.  “We are really reaching out to everyone in our CA community to help us provide the needed educational space for current and future students,” says Head of School Dr. Mike Davis.  “Every gift and every pledge helps. Already, we have raised more than $18 million: $16 million for building construction and $2.3 million toward the endowment. While two of the buildings are already complete, we cannot move forward with the theater or gymnasium projects without raising the additional money.”

These two facilities were built more than a half-century ago, and each was designed for fewer than half of the students that use these structures today. Further, these are the most public and largest gathering spaces for the CA community.  Director of Development Bob Schmitz points to the urgency of securing funds to avoid higher costs as time goes on. Schmitz says, “ In the face of rising construction costs, it is important to move forward now.  Our aim is to begin work this spring.”

By reaching the school’s fundraising goals, the architectural and construction experts say it is possible that both facilities will be completed in 2018.
